Four lives lost; many injured in Douglas County collision

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is actively investigating a multiple fatality collision that occurred at approximately 1:28 p.m. on February 9, 2025 on State Route 28 near Rock Island (milepost 11).

A 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a 17-year-old East Wenatchee resident was travelling westbound on State Route 28 near milepost 11 when it crossed the centerline and travelled into the oncoming lane. The Camry struck head-on with a full-size coach bus which was travelling eastbound on State Route 28.

After the initial collision, a third vehicle was struck, driven by a 29-year-old female of Cashmere, WA. The driver of the Camry and a 17-year-old male passenger of East Wenatchee, WA, were pronounced dead at the scene as well as the 66-year-old male bus driver of Spokane, WA.

8 passengers from the bus were transported to Confluence Health Hospital for injuries, including a passenger that died as a result of injuries sustained. A total of 4 individuals lost their lives and many were injured.

State Route 28 was closed for approximately 10 hours while District 6 WSP investigated the collision. This is an ongoing investigation. District 6 Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) and WSP Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) will be assuming the primary investigation.
