Old Mill Bay Boat Ramp Construction Project Ahead of Schedule

By Dennis Rahm

The boating public will be pleased to learn that a construction project at the popular Old Mill Bay boat ramp near Manson is nearing completion and may be completed ahead of schedule.

The facility has been closed to the public since April 2nd to undergo a $280,000 improvement project to repave and make other improvements including concrete curbs, storm drain repairs, tree removal and striping.

According to Chelan County PUD Construction Manager Tyler Sellers, work is progressing nicely with the possibility of completing the project a week to ten days ahead of May 18 target date. Once the curbing is completed the site will then undergo striping and a day or two of curing.

Sellers reported that contractors ran into some messed up drains and that some new piping had to be installed. There was also an issue with high ground water levels on the south side of the launch, but Sellers said there was time and money contingencies in place to handle both matters.

The Old Mill Bay facility is owned by Chelan County PUD and operated by Manson Parks and Recreation. The official reopening of the four-lane boat launching facility will be announced when all work is completed.
