Rylen Moody earns District Title; enters State Tournament as a #1 Seed

information submitted by Coach Rothlisberger

Thursday was Day 2 of the District 6 Tournament, the state tournament qualifier for the 1A and B boys in our region.  It was terrible tennis weather due to gusty winds, but there were a lot of exciting matches.

In boys singles, Chelan’s Rylen Moody was the #1 seed for the 1A CTL, and finals opponent Trent Renslow of Entiat was the #1 seed for the Bs.  That championship match turned out to be the first of many roller coaster matches this evening, with Rylen falling 5-7 in the first set, but coming back to win 7-5, 6-3 to take the district title.  Rylen will enter the state tournament as the #1 seed coming out of District 6.

Also in boys singles, George Neff began the night with an opportunity to qualify for state versus Charlie Lyons of Cascade but came up short 6-4, 6-2.  Lyons would eventually finish 3rd.  In the follow up match for 5th/6th and also the alternate slot to state, Neff played his best tennis of the year with an inspired 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 win over Albin Eskew of Cashmere.  So, George will travel to next week’s state tournament as the singles alternate for District 6.

In boys doubles, Ian Garfoot and Cray Silva also had a chance to punch their ticket to state with a victory over Jonus Johnson and Caden Peterson of Cascade, but came up just short 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.  In their follow up match for 5th/6th, Ian and Cray defeated Ortega/Northup of Soap Lake 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.  Ian and Cray will also travel to the state tournament as alternates.

Next up:

The Chelan girls will play in the NEA crossover match on Saturday in Deer Park.  Maya Cowan will earn a spot at state with a singles victory, and Ellie McLemore and Josie Garfoot can earn a spot with a doubles victory.
