Volunteer hosts are needed to live and work at the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest’s Boulder Cave Day Use area located 26 miles northwest of Naches, WA.

The Boulder Cave Day Use area is a reservation only site and volunteers are needed to assist with greeting visitors, validating reservations, and sharing information about the site. Other duties include cleaning bathrooms and general areas, blowing debris off paved trails and pathways, ensuring visitors follow regulations, and making sure people do not enter the site once it closes each day.

Volunteer Hosts must be 18 years of age or older and supply their own camper, trailer, recreation vehicle, etc. They have access to free firewood, water, garbage dumpsters, and Volunteer Host clothing. Volunteer Hosts do not pay camping fees and may be reimbursed by the Forest Service for some incidental expenses. Volunteer Hosts are generally needed between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

“We are looking for people who are friendly, cooperative, and like to help others,” said Recreation Management Specialist Janie Pardo. “Ideally, people who enjoy the outdoors and are eager to learn and to share knowledge about this forest area.”

An important aspect of having Volunteer Hosts at this site is that their presence helps to minimize vandalism thereby saving taxpayers many dollars in upkeep and property damage, Pardo said.
