The historic Ruby Theatre in downtown Chelan is proud to announce a new series of periodic public presentations, panels, and discussions of community interest in the Chelan Valley. The speaker series, “Ruby U”, is designed to inform, educate and challenge the understanding of ourselves, our community, and our valley now and into the future.
The first topic in the series of free community presentations is scheduled for Thursday, April 11th at 7:00 pm at Chelan’s Historic Ruby Theatre. Rich Beausoleil from the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife will discuss black bear ecology from a ten-year research project in the North Cascades that finished in 2023; provide an update on orphaned bear cubs from the Twenty-Five Mile fire; give an update on human-black bear conflict at Lake Chelan; discuss how WDFW has used Karelian Bear Dogs at Lake Chelan; and give tips on what Lake Chelan residents can do to co-exist with bears and become a BearWise community.
The next scheduled “Ruby U” programs will include a demonstration and lecture by Dr. Wendy Waszut-Barrett, who will be in Chelan to paint the Ruby’s new curtains and discuss historic painted theatre curtains. The third presentation will be on Chelan Valley geology by Nick Zentner, a senior lecturer at Central Washington University who hosts the popular PBS series, “Nick on the Rocks.”
