Girls Basketball: Goats fall to Ephrata despite 4th Quarter Surge
The Chelan Mountain Goats Girls basketball team faced off against the Ephrata Tigers. The 1st quarter saw Ephrata taking an early lead with a score of Chelan 9, Ephrata 18. Despite Chelan’s efforts, the 2nd quarter favored Ephrata again, with a score of Chelan 13, Ephrata 32.
As the game progressed into the 3rd quarter, Chelan made a push to close the gap, scoring 10 points compared to Ephrata’s 18. The 4th quarter was a spirited effort by the Chelan Mountain Goats, as they outscored Ephrata with a remarkable 19 points to Ephrata’s 9.
However, despite the late surge, Chelan couldn’t overcome the deficit, and the final score stood at Chelan 42, Ephrata 59. Notable performances included Brynn Hughbanks leading the scoring for Chelan with 14 points, supported by Brooklyn Foyle and Jayden Simmons, who contributed 7 points each.
Coach Longmire added “ We came out in the first couple of minutes strong offensively but had trouble containing their post. this slowed our offense down and stalled us out. We did a much better job of playing in the lanes in the 4th quarter creating scoring opportunities. Our goal is to play all four quarters with high energy this season and the results will come. I’m proud of our team’s resiliency!”
The Goats will travel to Quincy to open CTL play on Tuesday 12/5.
Boys Basketball: Chelan Goats Triumph over Tigers 56-45
The Chelan Mountain Goat Boys faced off against the Ephrata Tigers. The game unfolded with a close and competitive first half. Ephrata managed to secure a narrow lead in the first quarter with a score of 14, while Chelan trailed closely with 13 points. The second quarter saw Chelan taking the lead, heading into halftime with a score of 30, compared to Ephrata’s 29.
As the game progressed, Chelan continued to build on their momentum in the third quarter, scoring 18 points, while Ephrata faced a scoring challenge with only 9 points. To end the 3rd Quarter Isaac Wilson was fouled on a half court attempt which also lead to a technical foul on the Tigers giving the Goats 5 free shots at the line. Isaac Wilson made 4 of the 5 to extend their lead and close the quarter with a score of 48- 38. Heading into the final quarter, Chelan maintained control, securing the win with a final score of 56, while Ephrata finished with 45 points.
Key contributors to Chelan’s success included Luca Faletto and Isaac Wilson, both contributing 12 points, and Kellen Reinhart leading the scoring with 15 points. Notably, #12 for Ephrata, Hans Roberts, had a strong first half, scoring all of his 11 points during that period. Ultimately, Chelan’s consistent performance across all quarters earned them a well-deserved victory in their home opener.
Wrestling: Amiee Gorden clinches top spot; Sebastian Cisneros and Edgar Martinez capture 2nd during inaugural tournament
Chelan High School’s wrestling team hit the mats this past Saturday as they journeyed to Medical Lake High School for their inaugural tournament of the season.
Leading the charge for the Chelan girls was Amiee Gordon, whose tenacity and skill on the mat earned her an outstanding undefeated championship. Gordon demonstrated her dominance with an impressive display, securing four pins on her way to clinching the top spot in her weight class..
On the boys’ side, Sebastian Cisneros and Edgar Martinez battled their way to the finals of their respective weight classes. Although they narrowly missed the top spot, both athletes secured second place in their divisions in a challenging tournament.
Colton Bowthorpe and Zimri Kelling also showcased their talent, each securing a respectable fourth place in their weight classes.
Coach Linton explains ““I’m very proud of this start, especially all the effort from our underclassmen. We will continue to work and learn from our losses. Every day is a new opportunity to better if you have a growth mindset.”
