Hundreds of runners and walkers anticipated
information released
Nov. 23 is Thanksgiving Day — and in the Wenatchee Valley that means it’s also the day of the Give NCW Turkey Trot.
The Give NCW Turkey Trot 5K, 10K and Kids Race are expected to draw upwards of 800 runners and walkers to the Apple Capital Loop Trail adjacent to Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee.
The event will officially kick off the Community Foundation of North Central Washington’s annual Give NCW fundraising campaign for nonprofit organizations in the region. Proceeds will be shared equally with the nonprofits participating in the Give NCW campaign.
“The idea is for runners and walkers of all ages to enjoy some community camaraderie and burn off calories before partaking in their Thanksgiving Day feasts. We also want to call attention to the Give NCW campaign and all the great nonprofits in our region, and this is a fun way to do that,” said Community Foundation Executive Director Beth Stipe.
Registration is still open at https://runsignup.com/turkeyncw for those looking to participate. The cost to participate is $20 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K. The Kids Race is free. The first 750 5K and 10K participants are guaranteed a commemorative winter beanie hat.
The Kids Race will start at 9 a.m. on the Apple Capital Loop Trail adjacent to Pybus Market and the Riverfront Park Boat Launch. The 5K and 10K will begin immediately following the Kids Race at the same location. The 5K and 10K will be chip timed. Both are out-and-back courses.
Packet pickup and late registration will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Nov. 22, at the Pybus Public Market concourse; and from 7:30 to 8:50 a.m., Nov. 23, at a tent outside Pybus Public Market.
As part of the event, the Community Foundation is encouraging people to get fun and creative with their running attire. The “Best Dressed Individual” will receive $500 from the Community Foundation to donate to a Give NCW nonprofit of their choice, and the “Most Spirited Group” will receive $1,000 from the Community Foundation to donate to a Give NCW nonprofit of their choice.
The Wenatchee Valley Medical Group is the Turkey Trot’s presenting sponsor, which is allowing the Community Foundation to keep registration fees low and maximize the contributions back to the nonprofit organizations. Others contributing to Turkey Trot include Crunch-Pak, Caffe Mela, Costco, Chinook Music, TREAD, TedDriven, Printmade Apparel Co., and Thriving Together NCW.
