The Chelan and Manson Basketball season is underway. Our thanks to the Athletic Directors at both schools for providing updated information.
Chelan Basketball:
The Cascade Kodiaks traveled to Chelan on Tuesday night for a CTL varsity doubleheader. For the Goats, both the girls and the boys picked up wins.
The girls dominated in a convincing 51-23 victory over Cascade despite a bit of a slow start in the first few minutes of play. The Goats did exhibit some turnover issues. Coach Nick Longmire said in his post game report that, “we will have a tough time winning basketball games down the stretch if we don’t get this fixed”. Chelan was led in scoring by the 20 points of Kira Sandoval and the 14 of Aliyah Finch. The win improves their record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in league. Next up on the schedule is a Saturday night non-league game at Okanogan.
The Chelan boys completed the sweep over Cascade with a decisive 83-45 win. Nate Harding led the Goats with 26 points while Reed Stamps was right behind with 25. Braiden Boyd also finished in double figures with 13 points. Said Coach Tony Callero, ” it was great to see the team rooting or each other and working together.”
Like the girls, the Chelan boys will play Saturday night at Okanogan.
Manson Basketball:
The Lady Trojans hosted Almira-Coulee Hartline in a non-league game Tuesday night. The Trojans were down double-digits before they could get their 2nd bucket and ultimately fell 54-22. Said Coach Steve Nygreen, “we had good moments on defense and the offense will come as we get more experience”. Senior Lauren Soliday led the Trojans with seven points.Manson travels to Tonasket Friday for their next contest.
The Trojan boys also lost to A-C-H on Tuesday night by the score of 63-55. Manson was slow out of the game and found themselves down 17-2 in the early going. The Trojans fought back before losing by eight to the top team in the 1B State rankings. The boys will play again Friday at Tonasket.
