Girls win, boys lose close

The 2020-21 basketball is officially underway as both the Chelan girls and boys teams played at Brewster Tuesday night in non-league play.
The Lady Goats posted a dominating win over Brewster in coming out on top 54-33. Kira Sandoval led all scorers with 13 points and Aliyah Finch also scored in double figures with 12. Three other players chipped in with six points each including Beau Nordby, Arabelle Finch and Joslynn Simmons. Morgan Harrison would finish with five points.
In the late game, the Chelan boys fell to the Bears 74-70 in a game that was in doubt until the final seconds. Coach Tony Callero said his team played smart on defense, but, “we were a bit too aggressive in committing 26 fouls”. In a four point contest, Chelan was outscored 20-8 at the free throw line.
Chelan teams will next play on Friday night in non-league action at 4-A Eastmont. The girls and boys JV squads will play at 4pm Friday at Eastmont. The girls varsity game starts at 5:45 pm and the boys will follow at 7:30 pm.
