As part of its commitment to local communities fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, Rio Tinto’s Holden Mine Remediation Project team is donating an additional $10,000 to Chelan-area emergency management and hospital services.

Rio Tinto’s contribution includes $5,000 to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) for the up-lake community of Stehekin, as well as $5,000 for the Lake Chelan Community Hospital and Clinics.  Rio Tinto donated $5,000 to local health care facilities and programs earlier this year.

Rio Tinto site superintendent Holden Mine Remediation Project, Ken Ezpleta said “We are committed to helping our partners fight this pandemic by supporting services and supplies that help frontline response workers and the communities around our operations.”

Lake Chelan Community Hospital Emergency Management Services Director, Ray Eickmeyer said “Rio Tinto’s contribution provides much-needed funding to Lake Chelan’s hospitals, clinics and health care workers during this crisis. We are grateful for their support.”

The Holden Mine Cleanup is a $500+ million federally mandated project to remediate the historic Holden Mine site, at the far northeastern tip of Lake Chelan. Rio Tinto never owned or operated the Holden Mine but, through a series of acquisitions, agreed to pay for and manage the cleanup including the construction of a water treatment at the plant and ongoing environmental monitoring. #   #   #
