Thrive Chelan Valley serves up a delicious fundraiser

by Loni Rahm

The invitation started out like this:  “Tired of dishes after dinner? Looking for a way to spice up a Sunday night? Look no further!” Of course I was in!

The details included front door delivery of Carnitas, handmade tortillas, beans, rice and salsa. Plus a bottle of Rio Vista wine (or sparkling cider), dessert and a family friendly game. Still in…you actually had me at no dishes.

Then the real zinger: “all proceeds go to supporting Thrive Chelan Valley in furthering its mission of serving, empowering and advocating for Lake Chelan Valley youth.

Your support ensures that more students are mentored, more food insecure youth can access nutrition, and more barriers are removed so that all of our valley’s youth have the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

I ordered Sunday dinner for my family, content that we would eat well and Thrive would continue their mission. Apparently, I wasn’t alone.

Thrive’s Executive Director, Kayla Helleson told me that the “Carnitas for Kids” Fundraiser provided dinner and fun to 50 families last Sunday. Volunteer delivery teams covered 232 miles. And the fundraiser generated $8,900!

Helleson expressed her gratitude to everyone who prepared and delivered the food along with her deep appreciation to all the families who supported the event.

One final question — who made the absolutely delicious salsa verde and where can I get more?
