Annual Scholarship Fundraiser forced to cancel; generous donors still raise $2,800 for Chelan/Manson School Athletes
submitted by Sherry Fisk
Leaves are turning, snowbirds are packing and our shadows are so long that it’s difficult putting across them on the greens. It’s been a crazy golf season this year. Between navigating Covid requirements and smoke in the valley we were lucky to play golf most of the season. Today we enjoyed casual golf with a 9:30 tee time and no competition other than the chip-in pot. Three chip-ins were made by Nancy Judson on hole 17, Sherry Ochsner on hole 14 and Pam Zent on hole 7.
Due to Covid, we were unable to hold our usual and customary tournament that is our biggest yearly money maker for our scholarship fund. We did not want to invite out-of-area ladies to the course. Instead, we decided to just host a fun day of golf for a few players from within our valley. Since there was to be no banquet or raffle, we asked for donations to our scholarship fund.
Unfortunately, the smoke settled in that week to hazardous levels and we had to cancel. Fortunately, many players donated to our scholarship fund anyway. We were overwhelmed by the generosity of the ladies from Desert Canyon, Bear Mountain Ranch and our own club.
Combined, we raised a total of $2800 towards our Lake Chelan Ladies Club Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is available to any senior girl athlete from Chelan and Manson with emphasis on golf. Senior girls can find the application on their school’s websites.
As a club, we’d like to thank all those women who donated so generously. We welcome the addition of Desert Canyon and Bear Mountain Ranch ladies’ clubs in helping not only sustain but grow our annual scholarship amounts. We look forward to continuing to partner together in future years to maintain our support of senior girl athletes in our community.
That’s a wrap on this year’s crazy, fun and strange golf season for the Lake Chelan Ladies Golf Club. Here’s hoping for a nice smooth less eventful golf season next year.
