The Lake Chelan Food Bank is now into its third month of providing once a week drive-through food distribution services with the continued assistance of the National Guard. Food Bank Director Richard Springer says the program is likely to continue through at least mid- August and on average they have been able to serve about 150 families each week.
In an audio interview with LakeChelanNow, Springer explains that when the COVID-19 restrictions hit the Food Bank needed to close its doors for the protection of the public and food bank volunteers. They switched to distributing food out the back of the building in pre-packed boxes and soon after the National Guard was able to assist in setting up a drive-through format that takes place every Monday at 9 am.

Springer also noted the phenomenal support that the Food Bank has received from the local community and says all local cash and food donations stay in the Valley.
Multiple food & cash drives have helped build up community resources
In speaking of support from the community, Springer proudly notes they have more volunteers than they can use at this time. He says one of the best ways to keep up to date on what’s happening with the Food Bank is to follow their Facebook page.
