Goats and Lady Goats both place 2nd in Tournament

Chelan traveled to Selah on Saturday, March 24th, for the Viking Invite to face 2A Selah, 4A Moses Lake and 4A Eisenhower (Yakima).
Our goal: to find tough competition against larger schools and see what we’re made, so we know what we need to work on. Adversity exposes weaknesses, and informs our next steps. Mission accomplished: every Chelan player had at least one tough match, which will lead to valuable growth.
When the dust settled, the Chelan boys finished 2nd in the tournament, and so did the Chelan girls. This was an especially impressive outcome for the Chelan girls, who were missing two of the top four players on our ladder.
In girls #1 singles, senior Sydney Hawkins won her opener over Eisenhower in dramatic fashion 6-4, 5-7, (12-10), but lost the championship match to Selah 6-2, 6-1.
In girls #2 singles, junior Katelyn Deal won her opener 6-4, 6-1 over Selah, but was defeated in the championship match to finish 2nd.
In girls #1 doubles, Sierra Rothlisberger and Madeline Peebles won their opener over Moses Lake 6-2, 6-0, but fell to a talented Selah duo in the championship 6-3, 6-4.
In girls #2 doubles, frosh tandem Elle Rothlisberger and Bella Gatzemeier lost a close opener to Selah 6-2, 7-6, but won their consolation match vs Moses Lake 6-1, 6-2 to finish 3rd.
In girls #3 doubles, Cailee Parham and Nadia VanWechel lost their opener to Selah, but finished strong with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Moses Lake to take 3rd.
In boys #1 singles, senior Micah Larson won his opener over Eishenhower 6-2, 6-1. In the championship, Larson played well, but was defeated by D1 prospect Jared Kieser of Selah.
In boys #2 singles, junior Wyatt Habich lost his opener vs Selah, but dominated his consolation match vs Moses Lake 6-1, 6-1.
In boys #1 doubles, Tobin Wier and Alex Gavin lost a close opener to Selah, but rebounded with a win over Moses Lake 6-1, 6-3.
In boys #2 doubles, Tyler Higgins and Eli Phelps won their opener over Moses Lake 6-1, 7-5, but lost the championship match to Selah to place 2nd.
In boys #3 doubles, Steven Williams and Scott Abel lost a heartbreaker to Eisenhower 7-6, 7-6 to start off the day, but finished with a win over Moses Lake.
I was pleased that half of our entries played for the tournament championship. We possess the skill and talent needed to play with the big boys, and our court coverage and shot selection is improving with each match. Our next hurdle: playing our best when in counts the most, by winning the pivotal points against difficult opponents.
Next up: Chelan @ Cascade (CTL opener) on Tue Mar 27.
