Enjoys nap before capture and relocation

When Manson resident Julie Russell glanced out her window early last Sunday morning, the last thing she expected to see was a bear lounging in her back yard. Said Russell, “I noticed a big, dark shape in my yard and then realized, that’s not a dog”. It instead turned out to be a yearling bear curled up on the ground and having a nap.

Russell observed the bear for a bit and then decided to call the Department of Fish and Wildlife. It took several hours before a Wildlife agent and Sheriff’s office personnel arrived. During most of that time the bear was content to stay in the yard observed by Russell and her cats. Before assistance arrived, the uninvited guest took to the streets of Manson traveling on Manson Boulevard, onto Wapato Way and finally to Daisy Way where it was ultimately located, tranquilized and captured for relocation.

Russell said she was able to observe the bear for about five hours taking several photos and videos. She didn’t want to spook the bear and get a lot of people involved in trying to chase it away. Her main concern was that the bear be safely captured and relocated away from town. Mission accomplished.
