Baseball – Goats split a double header
It was a great day for baseball Saturday, as the Goats opened their CTL season with a Double Header against the Okanogan Bulldogs and ended up with a split. It was a roller coaster day, with emotions running high on both sides.
In the first game, the Goats opened the scoring with Colt Corrigan slashing a RBI double to score a hustling Gage Estes to provide a 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, the Bulldogs capitalized on 4 Goat errors, scoring three unearned runs. The score remained the same until the bottom of the 5th, when the Goats erupted for 3 runs highlighted by Bryson Darlingtons 2 RBI double, and Breckin Sporseen adding another RBI double to take the lead for good, with the Goats coming away with a hard earned 4 to 3 victory in game one. Sam Austin came in to pitch in the top of the third inning to shut down the Bulldogs with 5 innings of one hit, no run pitching to earn his first win of the season.
Game two featured a real nail biter, with the Goats scoring first. Then had an ensuing see saw battle that included a 45 minute delay for an injured Okanogan player, two ejections for a collision at home plate ( one for each team ) , a long home run by Breckin Sporseen to left, and, a hard hit RBI double down the left field line by freshman Drake Bird to tie the score in the bottom of the 7th to force extra innings. From there, the Goats surrendered 4 runs in the 8th, and couldn’t recover, giving the Bulldogs the victory.
Next up, more CTL action as the Goats travel to Cashmere Saturday, March 24 at 11 for another double header

Track & Field Jamboree
Coach Romero: We had a successful day as a coaching staff, team and community. We had over 50 kids compete in two events, as in Jamborees, they limit you too only two events. We even were able to avoid the rain. We had a number of different victories. No one got hurt, everyone walked away with marks or times, and we beat the rain. A coach couldn’t have asked for more than that. Some stats from our day:
- Bert Mendivil 12.53 100 meters, 19 ft 1 inch in Long Jump
- Christain Torres – 12.53 100 meters, 18 Feet 2 inches in Long Jump
- Kyle Jackson – 58.94 400 Meters
- Christopher Knight – 2:21.65 800 Meters
- Matt Smith – 35 ft 9 inches in Shot Put, 10
- Alex Neri – 34 ft 11 inches in Shot Put
- Kevin Cazarez – 107 ft in Discus
- Alex Neri – 100 ft 5 inches in Discus
- Girls as follows
- Ava Dickes – 100 meters 13.18, 200 meters 27.40
- Molly Oswald – 100 meters 13.66, 200 meters 28.32
- Mierya Garibay – 1600 meters 6:13.56
- Ella Polley – 1600 meters 6:22.24
- Lucy Bordner – Long Jump 14 ft 6 inches
There was a number of different athletes that threw and jumped well. But with only the opportunity to have two events made it hard to get some more stats and details. Also with on relays, pole vaulting, or hurdles made for a quick meet with not as much to cover. We look forward to this coming Saturday, March 24, for the Ray Cross Invitational at Ephrata High School. There will be schools of all sizes and great early competition. Our coaching staff is looking forward to a day of competition and kids being able to get four events under their belts. Please come and support our student athletes as we start our regular season and start the journey to State.
CHS Golf
Coach Kirk Einsparh: Results from last Friday’s Wenatchee Valley Girls Invite held at Highlander GC. This was Chelan’s second time on a golf course this season, so though the scores aren’t spectacular, I was very pleased with some of the golf played by our girls. Kaylin Boykin came in with low score for our team (99) and 7th place in the A/AA division; Chelan as a team came in 3rd in the A/AA division. [for a little comparison, Andrea shot a 139 at this same event last year, a 120 this year; Emily shot a 68 for her first 9-hole round last year, shot a 116 for 18 holes this year; and Kaylin shot an 84 for her first 9-hole round last year, and 99 for 18 holes this year! Not too bad of an improvement…and this was Katie’s first 18 for us ever, and I think you’ll be seeing those numbers come down quickly—she was about 20-25 yards short of the “longest drive” on one of the holes on Friday!
