Lady Goats will Face Zillah in First Round at State

Chelan Begins State Volleyball play on Friday Afternoon

Number One ranked Chelan will open play in the 2019 1A State Volleyball Tournament in Yakima this Friday with a first-round matchup against the Zillah Leopards. The two teams met earlier this season in Zillah with Chelan taking the sweep 3-0.

The Lady Goats will try to improve on their 7^th place finish from a year ago when they lost to eventual champion Lynden Christian in a close first round match 3-2. It’s possible Chelan could face the defending champions again on the opening day of play in the second round this year.

Chelan closed out the season with a Caribou Trail League Championship and District Championship on their way to qualifying for the State Tourney at the Sundome. Senior Emma McClaren was the league Player of the Year and was one of five Chelan players selected first team All-League.

The state sendoff for the Lady Goats will take place beginning at the high school at 9:50 Thursday morning. The team will then board a bus and receive a police escort to Morgan Owens Elementary for a second sendoff before making their way to Yakima. Once in Yakima they will get in a practice session and then participate in a spaghetti dinner on Thursday night for all 16 participating teams and coaches.

The Friday first round match against Zillah will start at 3:15 p.m. Their second-round match is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. on Friday against either Lynden Christian or Charles Wright Academy.
