Do your part: Remove vehicles parked along county road shoulders

With Chelan County Public Works now preparing for winter and the inevitable snowfall that comes with it, our road crews ask residents to do some prepping of their own.
Residents are reminded that a vehicle is considered “abandoned” if left within the county right-of-way for more than 24 hours. (A right-of-way is an easement for public travel that’s maintained by CCPW. The width of the right-of-way varies from road to road.) Abandoned vehicles can be removed or impounded by the sheriff’s office. If this happens, any fees for removal for impoundment are on the owner. (Chelan County Code 9.32)
A vehicle can park along the right-of-way as long as it is not designated a “no parking” area and it is not impeding traffic or road maintenance, including snowplowing operations.
The recent drop in temperatures reminds us that now is the time to remove those vehicles parked along the county road before snowplows are called to action. Vehicles parked along the edge of the roadway hinder snowplowing and other road maintenance efforts as well as create a safety hazard for our drivers.
Please do your part in keeping motorists – and snowplow drivers – safe this winter season by removing vehicles parked along the shoulder of the county road.
The following is a list of regularly scheduled maintenance for Chelan County Public Works for the week of Oct. 14, 2019. Maintenance plans may change with weather conditions or equipment difficulties. Visit the Public Works website, where the weekly road maintenance information is regularly updated.
District 1 (Wenatchee): The crew will be working throughout the district cleaning culverts and ditching.
District 2 (Cashmere): Crews will be ditching in the Wenatchee Heights area and at Wheeler Road. Motorists should watch for one-lane, flagger-controlled traffic in the work areas. Crews also will finish installing snow markers.
District 3 (Leavenworth): The crew will be hauling sand to its Leavenworth and Plain pits in preparation for winter weather.
District 4 (Entiat): On Entiat River Road, the crew will be crack sealing from Highway 97A to milepost 15. Watch for one-lane, flagger-controlled traffic. Motorists should expect minor delays. The crew also will be hauling sand to the Entiat shop in preparation for winter weather.
District 5 (Chelan): Crews will be filling in shoulder washes on South Lakeshore and Shady Pass roads. When crews are working, the roads will be one lane, with flaggers controlling traffic. Plan for minor delays. The crew also will be fall grading on primitive roads (minor traffic delays may occur) and brushing cutting in the Manson area (minor traffic delays may occur).
