The money needed did not come through

The community of Manson has come up short in an effort to purchase Leffler Field for use as a park. The extended deadline on a purchase agreement between Manson Parks and Recreation and the owners of the property expired earlier this week with more than $600,000 still needed to meet the agreed upon sale price of $1.3 million for the nearly six-acre site located off Highway 150 and Wapato Point Parkway.
Parks Director Robin Pittman tells LakeChelanNow it didn’t really come as a surprise that the money did not come through and now the reality of not being able to complete the purchase sets in.
“We appreciate the Leffler family walking alongside us while we were trying to make it happen” – Robin Pittman
The idea of securing the property as a community asset was initiated by the Manson Chamber of Commerce more than two years ago. For many years the Leffler family has allowed the community to use the site for various events such as car shows, concerts and Santa’s arrival by helicopter.
As the result of a recent property reappraisal triggered by an environmental study, Manson Parks and Recreation could pay no more than $628,000. The remainder of the purchase price would have needed public contributions to make up the difference.
