By Dennis Rahm
Get ready to break out your board — it’s time once again for the Windermere SUP Cup. The 4th annual event, featuring four separate stand up paddleboard races, takes place this Saturday, August 3rd.
Race organizer Arturo Zavala, of Windermere Real Estate, says that registration for the longer races will remain open until Friday. He also points out that the schedule of race day events has been revised for better efficiency.
Zavala explains the consolidation and structure of events
Race Routes:
- The 14.2-mile Lake Rider Challenge begins at 6:30 a.m. at Fields Point.
- The 6.1-mile North Cascades Bank Sprint starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Mill Bay Boat launch.
- The 2-mile Butte Brand Runner Race starts at 9:30 a.m. at Lakeside Park.
- The fourth and final race is the free Local Myth Pizza Beach-to Beach race for kids starting at 10:30 a.m. at Riverwalk Park.
All four races conclude at Riverwalk Park. Spectators can cheer on their favorite paddleboarders along the race course with the prime race vantage points from the old bridge or anywhere in the upper end of the Chelan River.
All proceeds from the SUP Cup will be donated to the Chelan Volunteer Fire Department. Zavala says Windermere Real Estate is proud to be engaged with the community and the volunteer firefighters where “it’s a win-win while having fun in the sun!”
