Fishing for summer chinook salmon will be permitted starting Tuesday, July 16th on the Upper Columbia River. Anglers can take a maximum of six Chinook salmon every day, including two hatchery adults.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) canceled summer chinook fishing back in April due to bleak forecasts of returning fish. Actual numbers have been better than expected, according to Chad Jackson, WDFW fish program manager for Region 2. The return numbers are bolstered by a surplus of hatchery fish from Entiat and Chelan Falls.
Fishing will be permitted between Rocky Reach Dam to 400 feet below the bypass channels around Wells Dam until Oct. 15th. The Entiat River will be open from the mouth to 15-hundred feet upstream of the upper Roaring Creek Road Bridge through Sept. 30. The Chelan River can be fished from the mouth to the Chelan PUD’s safety barrier below the Chelan PUD Powerhouse Station.
Fishing licenses can be purchased at a variety of locations in the Lake Chelan Valley, including Kelly’s Hardware and Walmart.
