In 2007, two years before the Lake Chelan AVA was approved, an upstart winery with a strange spelling, located in a valley known for apples, not wine grapes, burst upon the Northwest wine scene when Tsillan Cellars won Best of Show honors in two major wine competitions.  Twelve years later Tsillan Cellars continues to set viticulture and winemaking standards for the Lake Chelan AVA with over 400 Gold, Double Gold, Best of Class and Best of Show awards in major wine competitions.

This year’s results from the Wine Press Northwest Magazine further established Tsillan Cellars reputation as one of the most award wineries in Washington State. Every year all gold medal winning wines from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia are invited to compete in the “Best of the Best” wine competition. Each year only a few among the Northwest’s top wines are bestowed Platinum and the rare Double Platinum honors.  Tsillan Cellars submitted twelve of their gold medal wines to this years’ competition. The estate grown wines were awarded one Double Platinum, two Platinum, five Double Gold and four Gold medals in the “Best of the Best” judging. With over 2000 wineries in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia Tsillan Cellars is number fourteen on the all- time list of Platinum winners with a total of seventeen Platinum and Double Platinum awards.

In January the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the world’s largest judging of North American wines, announced that Tsillan Cellars wines were awarded Double Gold and Gold medals for their estate grown 2017 Gewurztraminer, 2016 Sangiovese and 2016 Reserve Syrah.  Tsillan Cellars wines have been awarded over twenty Gold, Double Gold and Best of Class awards in the San Francisco Competition in the past ten years.

Dr. Bob Jankelson, founder and owner of Tsillan Cellars, attributes the unique growing conditions of Lake Chelans’ South Shore, the dedication of his long- time vineyard foreman, Bal Flores, and quality of Tsillan Cellars winemaking program now headed by veteran winemaker, Ray Sandidge, for producing world class estate wines from the shores of Lake Chelan.
