Big Road Wins for Chelan Basketball

by Dennis Rahm

It was a productive Wednesday night in Leavenworth as Chelan basketball swept Cascade in Caribou Trail League play at Cascade High School. The Lady Goats won their second straight contest in rolling over the Lady Kodiaks 68-33 while the boys snapped a seven-game losing streak in a 69-42 win.

The Lady Goats had an outstanding outing from senior Lexie Gleasman who exploded for 31 points in the win. Freshman Teegan Silva was also in double figures scoring 11 points, all of them coming in the first half. The game was close after the first quarter with Chelan holding a 17-14 lead, but the Lady Goats had a huge second quarter outscoring their opponent t 28-10 to take a halftime lead of 45-24. With the win, Chelan remains in third place in league play at 5-5 while improving to 10-7 overall.

In the late game the Chelan boys jumped out to a 24-10 first quarter lead and never looked back in recording their first win in the last 8 games. Cade Christopherson led the way to victory with a game high 14 points while three other Goats finished in double figures. Quinn Stamps scored 12, Connor Wilson 11 and Bert Mendevil 10.

“I thought our guys did a good job creating turnovers and kicking it ahead. We did a better job of rebounding and not giving up offensive board” said Coach Jeff Pearl. The win improves the Goats record to 8-10 overall and 2-8 in the CTL.

Both teams have now assured themselves of post season play. The win by the boys secures the fourth and final seed into the District tournament while the Lady Goats have also qualified for District play as either a number two or number three seed. The District tourney will be played at Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee beginning Saturday, February 9.

The next outing for Chelan will be another trip to Leavenworth to face the Kodiaks once again on Friday night. The girls play at 5:45 p.m. and the boys at 7:15 p.m. You can listen to both games live on LakeChelanNow with Dennis Rahm starting at 5:40 p.m. Friday night.
