Game Recap 9/6/2019 vs. Kettle Falls: Final score: Manson 20 Kettle Falls 0

Information submitted by Coach Johanson

Manson football opened up the season at home on Friday night. They were able to win in the trenches and gutted out a 20-0 win. The defense played phenomenal all night and didn’t allow the Kettle Falls Bulldogs to even sniff the end zone. The defensive and offensive line of Manson set the tone all night.

On offense the Trojans racked up over 250 yards rushing. Caden Beazley and Parker Schoenwald led the rushing charge, Beazley with 181 and Parker with 73. Caden punched in 3 rushing touchdowns as well as a 2-point conversion. The offensive line led by Senior Daniel Frayle and Junior Cody Fitzpatrick absolutely dominated the Kettle Falls defensive line. “Many times there was literally a hole that a truck could have drove through” said Coach Joey Johanson. It was not all smooth though. The Trojans had 12 penalties on offense which hampered their momentum all night. “A lot of young guys playing tonight for the first time ever, but at least it’s an area we can improve upon.”

The defense shined and made great plays all night. Parker Schoenwald had a spectacular game at Outside Linebacker. He disrupted almost every play and even ended the night with a couple of sacks. The young players on defense pinned their ears back and had fun all 4 quarters. Linebacker Nick Strecker had an interception and defensive lineman Cody Fitzpatrick read plays in the backfield all night. “I was really impressed with this defense. We have a new defensive coordinator (Jerry Lopez) and he had these boys ready to play.”

Overall it was a great night, but Coach Johanson pointed out there are a few things they still need to improve upon to be competitive in the big games. “Our discipline was definitely below par. This week I will be looking at getting back to fundamentals and plenty of reps. With all that being said, I’m always proud of these guys and it’s huge for our confidence and momentum to start 1-0.”
