Visiting Australian Team has a Huge 2nd Half

The Chelan Mountain Goats hosted Newington College from Sydney, Australia in an exhibition game Wednesday evening at Chelan High School.  Chelan and Newington have a rich tradition of playing each other dating back several years.  The visiting Australians, with a roster that features 7 players from 6’5 to 6’7,  proved too much to overcome, taking the 70-47 win.  A dismal third quarter ended up being the difference in the game for the Goats.

While visiting Chelan, the Australian players stayed with Chelan basketball families for a 2-night homestay.  Newington will be playing 10 games on their 14 day trip.

The Goats were led by Quinn Stamps 16 points and 9 rebounds.  Connor Wilson added 15 points.

Coach Pearl said, “Although we came up short on the scoreboard, tonight was so much more than just a basketball game.  We are fortunate to have such a great relationship with Coach Nottage and his Newington Basketball family.  The relationships that our guys forged over the past couple days will no doubt last a lifetime.  I thought we battled well throughout the game, but they kept putting runs on us.  It’s experiences like these that shape our guys into positive ambassadors for our community and program.”

Chelan will jump back into league play Friday @ Okanogan. Catch the varsity double-header action live with Dennis Rahm on LakeChelanNow.com starting at 5:40 p.m. tonight.
