Southshore Road Closed between Sunnybank and State Park — Update: Road is reopened

WSDOT is clearing four snowslides that blocked the road

Highway 971 (Southshore Road) is currently closed as WSDOT crews clear four separate snowslides that fell in the area of the monument earlier this afternoon. The road is closed between Sunnybank and the State Park. The detour is through Navarre Coulee.

WSDOT employees weren’t sure how long the closure would remain in place as small snowslides continued to fall even while crews worked to clear the roadway from the larger slides. Warmer weather on top of the heavy snow has triggered the instability in this steep slope area.
