The hazy smoke lingering in the Lake Chelan Valley is the result of smoke drifting into Washington from BC. The National Weather Service projects that smokey conditions will likely persist through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, smoke and haze from fires in British Columbia and California can be seen on satellite this morning (graphic above). The smoke from British Columbia is lowering air quality across central Washington. Air quality information can be found at fire.airnow.gov #wawx

On Wednesday, a devastating wildfire forced evacuation of the entire population of Lytton, British Columbia. The fire started just days after the community reached the highest temperature ever recorded in Canada (at 121). It is reported that approximately 30 square miles of the picturesque community have gone up in flames. It is just one of the fires burning in Canada. Fires in California are also contributing to the haze over the Pacific Northwest.

Firefighting agencies across the state are urging residents to use extreme caution in these severely dry conditions.
