A brush fire on Stayman Flats Road Saturday afternoon around 5 p.m. was caused by target practicing. The small spark, fanned by gusty winds, eventually burned about an acre and a half threatening a nearby home.

Land owners were target practicing and realized one of their shots had ignited a spark. They attempted to put it out, but the winds had already taken control.

71 firefighters from Chelan County Fire Districts 1, 5, 7, and 8, the DNR, Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management responded. They helped keep the fire from running up the backside of Chelan Butte and protected the adjacent home. Crews had the fire in mop-up by 9:45 p.m.
