Landscaping underway along with replacement of broken, crumbling pieces of bridge structure

Update from City of Chelan with Lake Chelan Now photos
Pedestrians and drivers along the old bridge today saw broken and worn pieces of the original structure being removed. These will be replicated to match the original bridge design with reinforced structural integrity.

Also underway this week, crews are working on pavement markings as well as landscaping in the medians and in Landing Park — as seen in the photos below.

Finishing touches planned for the last few weeks of May:

This week the project is installing irrigation, top soil and the planter fence. Other work includes installing slope protection for the Landing Park, the top block of the gravity block wall, and the fall protection railing.

There will be minor impacts to traffic for the remainder of the week and next week, with possible short-term closures during the day on Columbia. All businesses will be open and all roads open to pedestrians and bicyclists.

Activities planned for May 20 – 25

  • Continue installing the planter fence
  • Install hand railing
  • Repairs to bridge concrete
  • Install irrigation, top soil and landscaping
  • Install pavement markings
  • Install traffic signs
