Deadline is today: Five candidates have applied so far

by Dennis Rahm

The resignation of Chelan City Councilman Ray Dobbs takes effect this week and the search is on for a replacement. Today (9/30) is the deadline to apply and five residents have thus far indicated an interest in filling the vacancy.

The candidates will be interviewed via Zoom during the Tuesday, October 6th city workshop session which starts at 4:00 p.m. Each candidate will be allowed five minutes to tell about themselves and why they desire to serve on the council. Current council members will then be allowed to ask questions of the candidates.

After a brief recess for executive session, the City Council workshop will then reconvene for discussion before a candidate or candidates are recommended. A vote will then be taken and the appointment will be made official. The new councilman will then be administered the oath of office and participate in that evenings budget workshop.

The deadline for additional applicants is 5 p.m. today. These five residents have applied.
