Kittitas County – A traffic stop and careful observation by Trooper Logan Swift leads to the capture of a homicide suspect in Kittitas County.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, Trooper Swift attempted to stop a 2020 Nissan Maxima Sedan for speed above the legal limit on eastbound I-90 near milepost 101 (5 miles west of Ellensburg). The Nissan continued without stopping, then exited at Thorp and turned right onto South Thorp Highway. The vehicle finally stopped after traveling about a mile

Trooper Swift observed 2 occupants in the vehicle. They remained in the vehicle, however, as Trooper Swift approached to contact he observed furtive movements from the driver. The driver put an identification card out the window. The identification card did not match the driver. Trooper Swift immediately recognized the driver as a wanted fugitive from Seattle based a flyer sent to law enforcement officers a week ago. He ordered the driver to exit the vehicle twice before he complied. Trooper Swift quickly placed the driver into custody.  He also ordered the passenger to exit the vehicle and sit on the ground for safety. Backup units arrived shortly thereafter.

Trooper Swift identified the driver as Thomas Oscar Cady, 46, Shoreline, WA.  Cady was wanted on a $5 million first degree murder warrant out of Seattle. Cady was listed as armed and dangerous. The passenger accompanying Cady was his cousin who had rented the vehicle. They were fleeing the state with plans to go to Kansas.

Seattle Police Department detectives took custody of Cady and possession of the rental car. They booked Cady into the King County Jail.

The actions and observations of Trooper Swift removed a dangerous wanted felon from the public. His efforts were praised by Seattle Police Department detectives.
