It was quite a finish to the spring sports season for Chelan High School with State tournament competition wrapping up last weekend. The school will need to make some room in their trophy case to hold all the new trophies and medals earned.

Chelan High School invites friends and family to attend the Spring Sports Dessert Banquet on Thursday, May 30, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the CHS Commons. After a group presentation, individual sports will break out separately for team recognition and awards.

Baseball:

Chelan baseball completed an outstanding season with a third-place finish in Yakima. The Goats lost in the semi-finals 5-0 to eventual State champion University Prep. Chelan would bounce back to beat Colville 7-2 in the game to determine third and fourth place in the 1A division. The Goats also completed their season as League and District champions.

Tennis:

In State tennis action, the girls doubles team of Bella Gatzemeier and Abby Martin took fifth place while Emma McClaren captured sixth place in girls singles play. On the boys’ side, Wyatt Habich and Tobin Wier faced well-known opponents in the medal round: each other! In what may have been the first ever Chelan vs Chelan round, Wyatt took 5th and Tobin 8th.

Track and Field:

Meanwhile, the Chelan track and field team produced several outstanding performances at their State meet in Cheney at Eastern Washington University. Ellie Collins had a busy and productive time at State by finishing second in the pole vault, fifth in 100-meter hurdles and was also a member of the girls 4×100 relay team that placed seventh. Other relay team members included Aliyah Villaasenor, Molly Oswald and Matea Ivory. Ivory also finished eighth in the 100-meter dash and took sixth place honors in the 200-meter dash with a school record time of 25.87.

Golf:

Chelan sent four golfers to state. Miles Grossberg finished in 12th place; Joey Gaspar tied for 43rd place while Parker Brown tied for 75th place. Kaylin Boykin earned 37th place overall and special recognition when she earned a sportmanship award.

Lake Chelan Now would like to thank the parents, friends, coaches and staff members who regularly send us pictures and provide us with updates throughout the season. We appreciate the opportunity to share the accomplishments of Chelan’s student-athletes with our community.
