Chelan Announces Student-Athletes of the Week

Submitted by CHS Athletic Director, Rob Rainville

Coaches nominate individuals for outstanding effort and participation. CHS and CMS are pleased to recognize Student-Athletes of the Week, and present the nomination write-up from their coaches.

Each student-athlete winner will be given a BC MacDonalds gift card for a free cheeseburger, fries and drink. Chelan Schools appreciates the generosity of Afni and Brent MacDonald for their support of the Lake Chelan School District and Chelan Athletics.

Congratulations to our Student-Athletes of the week. Thanks to all of you, for all your support, and we look forward to seeing everyone this week supporting Chelan Athletics.

GO PIRATES!  GO GOATS!

Golf – Miles Grossberg

Miles shot a 1-under-par 68 to win the Jack Barnes Invitational Boys Golf Tournament held over the weekend at Three Lakes Golf Course in Malaga and to lead his team to a 4th place finish.  The tournament hosted 9 teams of all size classifications including 4A schools.  Miles has been very consistent this season, getting individual medalist honors in every match he has participated in so far.  – Coach Einspahr/Coach Finch

CMS Track and Field – Arabelle Finch

Arabelle brings positivity and toughness to the team. Her smile is infectious; she gives her best in practice and she is ruthless in competition. She supports her teammates and is willing to endure what most would consider painful; last week she ran the mile, the 400 leg of the medley, and the anchor in the 4×400. We appreciate you Arabelle!  – Coach Spanjer

Congratulations to all Nominees!  Here’s what their coaches had to say about them.

Chelan Goat Nominees

Track – Ezequiel Campos

Ezequiel Campos is my nomination for athlete of the week.  He has been an incredibly tough runner in the 800.  He has been setting new personal records every week and has moved up the ranks to hold the current #2 spot.  –Coach Barnes

Tennis – Abby Martin/Bella Gatzemeier

The girl’s doubles team of senior Abby Martin and sophomore Bella Gatzemeier had an outstanding week-and-a-half.  First, they took 4th place out of 40 entries at the prestigious Inland Empire tournament in Spokane while playing some of the best doubles tennis they’ve ever played.  They defeated Lake Roosevelt 6-1, 6-0 and defeated Cascade 6-1, 6-1.  They’re always working hard in practice to improve their doubles skills and strategy, and have gelled into an impressive duo. – Coach Rothlisberger

Baseball-Colt Corrigan

Colt has excelled not only this past week, or this season, but for his entire 4 year career as a varsity starter. His transformation from freshman year until now, is a shining example of how hard work and determination can elevate a committed student athlete to elite status. Colt can be counted on to continue to be a source of inspiration and motivation for Chelan kids for years to come. – Coach Papasedero

Softball – Leanna Garfoot

In the 3 games played, Leanna was 7 for 12 batting with 4 runs scored, 3 RBIs, and 2 stolen bases.  She pitched 2 of the 3 games, winning one and losing one.  Her positive attitude and sense of humor makes her a wonderful teammate. – Coach Nondorf

Soccer – Luis Mendez

Luis Mendez- Luis is a great defender. He puts his heart and soul into his team by defending and playing for his team.  He has really improved and he is a great representation of Chelan on the soccer field. – Coach Richards.

Chelan Pirate Nominees

Softball – Diana Mendoza

This is the first year that Diana Mendoza has played softball, so the learning curve was extremely steep.  As an 8th grade athlete, she stepped up and she has given 100% effort.  I can always count on a smile and a positive attitude when asked to do something.  She is very determined and fearless. – Coach Habich/Arebalo

Softball – Kira Sandoval

Kira is an amazing athlete.  She is very coachable and she always wants to learn more.  I can count on her to be a leader and keep the group going in practice and in games.  I look forward to all the great things this girl will do on and off the field.  I am very proud to be her coach. – Coach Habich/Arebalo

Track and Field-Aedan Baker

Aedan has a good attitude, great work ethic and the icing on the cake is he has won the pole vault 2 weeks in a row. He supports his teammates in practice and competition. He is a true team player and is the first to help set up, clean up or load the bus when needed. Great job Aedan. – Coach Spanjer
