Goats take 20 of 21 matches vs. Omak and Okanogan

information released by Coach Rothlisberger, LCN file photo
Chelan hosted CTL rival Omak and former CTL rival Okanogan on Saturday for the first jamboree we’ve been able to participate in since the pandemic began.  We had over 30 players under warm sunny skies and calm conditions.  Perfect March day for tennis.
The Chelan boys and girls were able to win 20 out of the 21 matches they played on Saturday.  However, we can’t let that go to our heads, as both opponents were missing key players today.  I expect our match-ups later this season vs Omak and Okanogan to be far more competitive.
Chelan vs Okanogan: Chelan girls won 5-0, Chelan boys won 5-0
Girls #1 Singles: Caelan Rothlisberger won 8-3
Girls #2 Singles:  Maya Cowan won 8-0
Girls #3 Singles:  Yuly Nunez won 8-1
Girls #1 Doubles:  Piper Grossberg/Arden Paglia won 8-1
Girls #2 Doubles:  Makayla Griffith/Jamie Bekel won 8-1
Boys #1 Singles:  Nate Harding won 8-1
Boys #2 Singles:  Charlie Bordner won 8-4
Boys #3 Singles:  Teagen Moody won 8-3
Boys #1 Doubles:  Cody Sanderson/Rylen Moody won 8-2
Boys #2 Doubles:  Luke Christopherson/Aiden Avery won 8-0
Chelan vs Omak: Chelan girls won 4-1, Chelan boys won 5-0
Girls #1 Singles: Arden Paglia lost a close match to Marissa Grillo, one of the top singles players in the CTL, 6-8.  It was great tennis by both players.
Girls #2 Singles:  Makayla Griffith won 8-2
Girls #3 Singles:  Jamie Bekel won 9-7
Girls #1 Doubles:  Ally Williams/Piper Grossberg won 8-1
Girls #2 Doubles:  Caelan Rothlisberger/Maya Cowan won 8-0
Boys #1 Singles:  Cody Sanderson won 9-7
Boys #2 Singles:  Rylen Moody won 8-2
Boys #3 Singles:  Sam Bordner won 8-0
Boys #1 Doubles:  Nate Harding/Charlie Bordner won 8-0
Boys #2 Doubles:  Chelan by default
Also, we had a couple Chelan players play some extra matches in place of a shorthanded Omak squad-
Charlie Bordner won singles 8-3
Sam Bordner/Caleb Sanderson won doubles 8-0
Omak also brought down 6 JV girls, so we had three Chelan JV doubles teams pick up wins in their first ever high school matches:
Ellie McLemore/Danika Dietrich
Melissa Gonzalez/Irene Hernandez
Jailyn Reinhart/Brynn Fielding
Even with all the great wins, possibly the highlight of the day for me was watching a mix of Chelan JV and varsity stay after the jamboree was over, and kept playing, because they didn’t want to be done.  They had already been there for over 5 hours!
