Teams Competed well at Royal City last week

The Chelan Cross Country team traveled to Royal City for their first meet of the season. Competing on a deceptively challenging, spongy two-mile course, the runners raced against Royal, Wenatchee, Cascade, Okanogan, and Soap Lake. With new Covid regulations in place, the top four runners start in the first flight, one minute later the next set of runners begin. Cray Silva in his debut performance established himself as the team’s number one runner as a Freshman. He earned 5th behind upperclassmen from Wenatchee and Cascade. Luke Simmons, a sophomore, improved from last year to be the team’s number two runner followed closely by senior Tucker Fogelson. Elijah Strode, David Payan, and Ian Garfoot also competed well for Chelan

On the girls’ side, our dynamic duo, Mireya Garibay and Teagan Silva continue their one-two punch for the third year in a row placing 7th and 9th respectively. Garibay ran a smart race passing several runners in the second mile making her our top runner. Ella Polley had a fantastic finish placing 20th, catching a racer from Wenatchee at the tape. Bella Gatzemeier, 15th, and Savannah Gresham, 30th, rounded out the team.

Next week the Cross Country team will travel to Lakeview Golf Course for an Ephrata Invitational. Boys JV races @11:00, Boys Varsity @1:30 and Girls Varsity @ 2:00.
