Goats Host Omak in Final Regular Season Home Game

by Dennis Rahm

It was a productive trip to Tonasket Thursday night as both Chelan varsity basketball teams were victorious against the host Tigers in non-league action.

The Lady Goats built on a four point first quarter lead to finish the first half with a comfortable 26-12 advantage. The Chelan defense was inspired — holding Tonasket to only one point in the second quarter. The momentum continued in the second half as the Lady Goats coasted to the 51-28 win. Chelan was led by the 17 points of Matea Ivory who continued her hot hand from the outside. Since returning from a three game injury absence, Ivory has scored 37 points in her last two outings. Booh Huddleston also finished in double figures with 11 points while Katie Rainville chipped in with 8 points.

In the late game, the Chelan boys took advantage of a huge third quarter in claiming an 80-67 victory over Tonasket.  The Goats clung to a one point lead at the half, but rang up 29 points in the third period to gain separation and would go on to win the contest by 13 points. Season scoring leaders Connor Wilson and Quinn Stamps again led the way for Chelan with Stamps recording  27 points and Wilson 24. Cade Christopherson had another solid outing with 16 points. Head Coach Jeff Pearl credited better offensive patience in the second half and lauded the play of Stamps and Wilson saying “they both made good decisions with the basketball”.

Tonight (Friday) will be a big night for the teams as the matchup against Omak will not only feature Senior Night recognition, but two new inductees will added to the Chelan Athletics Hall of Fame during halftime of the boys game.
