Lots to Celebrate in Chelan Thursday as the Holiday Weekend Approaches

By the LCN Team

It was a festive afternoon and evening in downtown Chelan with three special events on Thursday which individually and collectively attracted a significant number of participants and spectators.

Thursday Evening Farmers Market

Sunny skies welcomed the vendors at this season’s opening day of Thursday Evening Farmer’s Market. Since 2011, fresh produce and locally crafted items have been offered by local farmers and craftspeople along Emerson Street at the east end of Riverwalk Park.  Live music and the occasional dancer adds to the allure of the Market, which runs from 4-7 pm each Thursday from May 24 through September 27.

Information is available on the Thursday Evening Farmers Market website if you are interested in becoming a TEFM vendor or a volunteer.

Memorial Parade

At 7 pm, the VFW Color Guard’s flag procession down Wooden Avenue signaled the start of the Annual Memorial Parade. Hosted by the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce on the Thursday before Memorial Day, the parade honors soldiers, police officers and firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who have served and are currently serving our country. Chelan was proud to honor Daniel McCartney as his family carried his banner in the parade.

High school and middle school bands, floats, fire trucks, horses, motorcycles and classic cars were among the participants this year. For additional information about Chamber events throughout the year, visit their website.

Riverwalk Inn — 100 Year Celebration

Right next to the Farmers Market location sits the charming 12-room Riverwalk Inn. From 6-9 pm Thursday night the community was invited to share in a centennial celebration of hospitality. Rooms were opened for tours, and guests enjoyed a delicious sampling of the Inn’s unique menu items set against the backdrop of sunset over the Chelan River and accompanied by live music.

You won’t have to wait another 100 years to appreciate the Riverwalk Inn. The cafe is open to the public for breakfast and lunch. And you can always book a guest room or suite as a getaway for yourself or to accommodate friends and family.
