Third Chelan Fire District 7 Commissioner to be Announced Next Week

By Dennis Rahm

By Monday of next week Chelan Fire and Rescue will know who will represent District 7 as the third and final Fire Commissioner. Tom Peters resigned his position on March 14, 2018 and the Commission has been one member short since that time.

On May 23, 2018 Chelan Fire and Rescue Chief Tim Lemon submitted a letter to the Chelan County Commissioners requesting their assistance in selecting a candidate to fill the vacancy as the two remaining Fire District Commissioners were unable to agree on who the replacement should be. Chief Lemon noted that six candidates initially applied to fill the position and that one later withdrew from consideration and yet another had filed an incomplete application thus leaving a slate of four candidates.

Commissioner Russ Jones has backed the application of Nan Bolomey while Commissioner Phil Moller favors Jay Witherbee. The two Commissioners were unable to reach an agreement at their regular meeting on April 11 and again were at a stalemate during a special board meeting that was held on May 23rd. Chief Lemon said in his letter to the County Commission that both Fire District Commissioners agreed to forward the final decision making process to the Chelan County Board of Commissioners.

County Commissioner Doug England from Manson told LakeChelanNow that the County Commission anticipates making the appointment next Monday, June 4th.

In addition to Witherbee and Bolomey, the county will also consider the other two applicants Karyl Oules and Karl Jonasson. The county commission has reviewed all four resumes in Executive Session and according to England are prepared to complete the process of making their selection next Monday.
