Teaching, fun and encouragement were at the forefront of last weekend’s Joe Harris basketball camp.

About 250 youngsters had the opportunity to hone their skills with hands on instruction from the NBA player as well as several other camp coaches, including Brooklyn Nets Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development Adam Harrington. The two-day camp was held at both Chelan High School and at the Community Gym for students in Kindergarten through Eighth grade. Harris operates the camp as a non-profit that also provides a yearly scholarship to a senior in the Lake Chelan Valley. This year’s recipient of the Leaders of the Lake scholarship is Javier Torres of Chelan.

Harris, a former standout at Chelan High School, had an outstanding college career at the University of Virginia and has just completed his fourth season in the NBA with the Brooklyn Nets, recording career highs in most statistical categories including scoring, rebounding, assists and shooting percentage.

LakeChelanNow had the opportunity to catch up with Harris as he talks about camp, family, and giving back to the community where he was raised.

You can listen to the interview below and enjoy a gallery of photos from this year’s camp activities.
