Story and Photo submitted by Erik Romero, CHS Track Coach

I hope this email finds you with family, friends and a ton of laughter and joy. Thank you to everyone that showed their support for our Chelan Track Student Athletes this past Thursday. The weather kept up enough for us to host a great night of competition. It started out as a warm early afternoon with some wind coming in after about 5:30 pm.

This was our Senior Night, even though it was early in the year, we held since we only have one meet a year at our facility. We had 9 seniors and I am happy for all of their accomplishments.

The Seniors are:

Javier Pastor, Hunter Lehmbecker, Matt Smith, Javier Torres, Caleb Dodge, Jacob Bekel, Braden Williams, Olivia Nygreem and Ava Dickes.

They have all done a lot for our program and school community. Thank you again for taking the time to come and support our Student Athletes this past Thursday. The students and their parents wanted to say thank you, as well, to everyone that showed up to support.

Boys Results:

  • Three boys competed in the 110 High Hurdles; Antonio Cazarez, Cameron Manda and Guage Culver. Toni got 4th, Cameron was 3rd and Gauge was 5th. Their times were Manda – 20.84, Toni – 21.06, Culver – 23.31
  • Skyler Gordon ran a 12.5 in the 100 meter dash.
  • Antonio was 3rd for us in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.75.
  • We had two Chelan athletes get 2nd and 3rd in the Pole Vault. Braden Williams and Javier Pastor. Williams cleared 10 Feet and Pastor cleared 9 ft 6 inches.
  • Matt Smith got 2nd in two events, the Javelin and Shot Put. His throws measured, 127 ft 9 inches and 35 feet 5 inches in the Shot.
  • In the discus, our boys performed very well. We had the top 4 spots. Starting with Kevin Cazarez, Alex Neri, Hunter Logan and Caden Bryant. Their throws were as follows; Cazarez – 109 feet 10 inches, Neri – 99 feet 8 inches, Logan – 92 feet 5 inhces and Bryant with 91 feet 5 inches.

We didn’t have a number of our kids do their main events this past Thursday. We wanted to make sure that we honored our Senior Boys and had a good time as well. With that being said, I look forward watching our boys continue to get better and perform better each time out.

Girls Results:

  • We started off with a 1st place finish from Freshman Elly Collins in the 100 meter hurdles. Her time was 17.10 in her first official HS track meet. She also placed 2nd in the Pole Vault clearing 10 feet and only missing 1st place by a few misses.
  • Molly Oswald finished 2nd for us in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.62 and Matea Ivory came in 6th with a time of 13.72.
  • We also performed well in the 1600 meter run. We had three girls get 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Ashyln Sanderson. Olivia Nygreen and Geo Granados. Their times were 6:33.3, Nygreen – 6:39.36 and Grandados – 6:42.02
  • We also had 3 girls place in the top 5 of in the 400. Mireya Garibay, Emilie Barnes and Ella Polley. Garibay – 71.74 2nd, Barnes – 72.29 3rd, and Polley – 75.45 5th
  • Same goes for the girls 800. We had 4 girls place in the top 5.
  • With enough girls, we were able to put together two 4×100 relay teams and we finished 2nd and 3rd. It was fun to watch a number of girls compete on the dirt track.

Thank you again for taking the time to come to our meet and watch our kids compete. I hope that you get the opportunity to come and watch at other meets as well.

We look forward to Spring Break, a time to reflect and get energized, before we start the stretch run of SCHOOL and Regular Season for Track. We have a busy schedule coming up. We have three invitationals over three weekends and with two track meets per week, it will make for a busy month of April. That is also what makes it fun.

I hope to see you all at the Brewster Relays on Tuesday, April 11th at 4:00 p.m.
